Press Release: The images showing that Rev. Jean Kabuidibuidi was deported to torture
Yesterday, Jonas Bergström, a Swedish refugee activist, recieved an email from pastor Jean Kabuidibuidi with pictures showing the damage that he has received since he was deported to the Congo. The images were displayed on TV4 News broadcast at 14:40. In the email rev. Jean wrote:

This is what has happened to me: I have been severely tortured and beaten, and there are pictures of damage that will show you the scars that will remain. I have been locked for security reasons, the person who has helped me to convey this message, I reserve myself to talk to you more and will talk to you in a video in more detail.

If the statement of Pastor Jean Kabuidibuidi is true, which very much suggests, it is a clear violation of the Swedish Utlänningslagen (Alien Act), Section 12 § 1.

If Jean has been subjected to torture, it is also a violation of the “Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, human or degrading treatment or punishment”, which Sweden ratified the in 1985. Sweden has been criticized by the UN to violate this convention 12 times, according to Amnesty.

As recently as last Saturday Anette Backlund at the Migration Board said to Swedish Radio that they do “proper investigations” of the security situation in the Congo and that they have “good knowledge” about the situation in the country.

- The pictures of the damaged Pastor Jean shows, in all probability, he has been subjected to torture and that the Migration Board has been wrong in their contention that they are no risks for Jean to be deported to the Congo. The Swedish government has subjected Jean’s life at risk. Now, the rules must be revised so that no more people will be deported from Sweden to torture, says Maria Furusand, pastor of Elimkyrkan in Stockholm and one of those who have become involved in the case.

MP Eva-Lena Jansson (S) has, because of the events surrounding Pastor Jean asked a question in parliament to the Swedish Migration Minister Tobias Billström. ”How to ensure the government to the Migration Board has reliable data and land information for the decision of rejection?”

Jean is currently in a place where he receives medical supervision and care. He wants a future in Sweden. He has lived in Sweden for eight years and is offered a job as pastor of Elimkyrkan in Stockholm. All he needs is a work, and help the way back here.

- We are deeply upset about how refugees are treated by Sweden. Our authorities have kept an innocent pastor imprisoned for 5 months and then expelling him in irons under great secrecy without even the lawyer was informed, says Stefan Swärd, business consultant and pastor who is deeply involved in Jean’s story.

Background
Jean Kabuidibuidi is a pastor from the Democratic Republic of Congo. A country which has experienced one of the bloodiest wars since World War II. Since 1993, various armed conflicts going on. Between 2000 and 2006, 3.8 million people were killed in the conflict, according to UNICEF. In the midst of a raging civil war, Jean called the regime for a serial killer in his sermons. Jean was threatened by the regime and fled to Sweden in 2003. He applied for asylum but the Immigration Service did not assess that there was no risk to Jean for his extradition to Congo and denied him asylum. In October, Jean was locked into Immigration Service custody in Märsta. He was detained for 144 days, subjected to three deportations that did not succeed, on the third occasion was Jean hit in the chest by Swedish police.

On the night of Friday 24 February, he was deported to the Congo during great secrecy. Jean’s lawyer Claes Strömvall had no information about when Pastor Jean would be deported. When Jean arrived in the Congo, he was, allegedly, taken to a place with the prison-like conditions in which he was subjected to torture.
