Injured LuaLua to miss Egypt clash

LuaLua out with a thigh injury

DR Congo will have to do without main striker Lomana LuaLua when they host Egypt in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

The 27-year-old, who plays for Qatari side Al-Arabi, picked up a thigh injury that ruled him out of the game.

DR Congo's French coach Patrice Neveu was disappointed to lose LuaLua against six-time African champions Egypt.

"LuaLua is a very important striker for my squad because he is strong, able to retain the ball and snatch it from the opponents," he was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"I'll try to do what I can but I think his presence would make a difference for our game with Egypt on Sunday."

Egypt coach Hassan Shehata has also lost Middlesbrough midfielder Mohamed Shawky and Ismaili striker Mohamed Fadl. The duo has been injured.

Star striker Mido, Shawky's teammate at Boro, remains doubtful after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Honestly I have never seen SA play so good...let's just say that's about the best football they have dished out in the past 4 or five years. Egypt meet Congo in Kinshasa

Egypt will be out to avoid an embarrassment when they face DR Congo in a crucial World Cup qualifier in Kinshasa on Sunday.

Despite being drawn in a relatively easy group that includes DR Congo, Djibouti and Malawi, Egypt are yet to ensure their progress to the next phase of the qualifiers.

The Pharaohs will even face the unthinkable fate of being eliminated if they suffer a defeat against DR Congo.

Egypt, DR Congo and Malawi are all tied at Group 12 summit with nine points but the latter have played an extra match while minnows Djibouti are rooted to the bottom without a single point.

The six-time African champions’ destiny will slip out of their hands if they lose against DR Congo, who face Malawi away from home in their last group game.

Although a draw would be favorable for Egypt, coach Hassan Shehata set his sights on claiming all three points.

“My team is looking for nothing but a win over Congo,” he told Al-Hayat TV.


Mido doubtful

“I don’t believe in setting two targets. Egypt just want to emerge winners from Sunday’s clash.”

Injury Problems

Egypt will have to do without midfielder Mohamed Shawky, who is considered one of the mainstays of the team’s squad.

The Middlesbrough man picked up a groin injury that ruled him out of the anticipated game.

Shawky’s club teammate Mido is also doubtful, having sustained a hamstring injury in training. The prolific striker is most likely to start on the bench.

Ismaili striker Mohamed Fadl has pulled out of the squad, leaving Shehata with few options upfront.

Ittihad Jeddah’s loan signing Emad Meteb will partner Wigan Athletics’ in-form striker Amr Zaki but there will be no recognized striker on the bench to act as a back-up.

On the other hand, DR Congo will miss star striker Lomana LuaLua who suffers from a thigh problem.

Même le docteur le léopards est étonné quand il a fait l'analyse de Lualua. Et en plus le docteur de son club est un egyptien. C'est mon cousin qui est à KIn qui m'a donné toutes ces infos. Il m'a dit qu'il a vu Lualua hier à l'entrainement, courrir, frappé sur le ballon. Donc voilà...

Crois-tu vraiment que si LUALUA est gravement touché le docteur laisserait LUALUA jouer? voilà pour quoi je peut dire que sa peut être vrai.

J'espère que Lualua sait ce qu'il fait, on joue un match capital cet aprem, un nul va nous forcer un match héroïque au Malawi!

Je pense que si Lualua est en pleine possession de ses moyens, alors je peux dire que dans ce système de 4-3-3 les egyptiens vont subir la pression et encaisser et encaisser des buts...Lualua a été l'homme du match au Caire et c'est un vrai poison pour la défense egyptienne...Je prédis bcp de buts, une avalanche de buts, "mangenda" si Lualua est au top !! En tous les cas, il y aura du grand football...Du tao-tao comme dirait Ghislain GABIO !!
