Britt Assombalonga: Forest striker Nations Cup call 'unlikely'
Britt Assombalonga is unlikely to miss part of Nottingham Forest's season to play in the Africa Cup of Nations, according to his manager Stuart Pearce.
The 21-year old striker has the option to represent England or the Democratic Republic of Congo and has previously been invited to play for the latter.
But Pearce told BBC Radio Nottingham: "At this moment I can't see him going away in January but who knows.
"I think he said to Congo that he would prefer to keep his options open."
Assombalonga, who has scored 12 goals in 19 starts this season since his summer move from Peterborough United, was born in DR Congo's capital Kinshasa, before moving to England before his first birthday.
His father is a former Congolese international, and if he decided to play for the country of his birth in next month's competition, he could miss around three weeks of the English season in January and February.
But Pearce said Assombalonga "wants to concentrate on his club career for now".
"I think that is right and proper," Pearce added. "He is learning the game.
"The choice is always his. I was very proud to represent my country so I would never influence a player to play or not play for their country.
"That is purely a personal decision and we will support whatever decision he makes."

" La décision lui revient toujours. J'étais si fier de représenter mon pays que je n'aurais jamais à influencer un joueur de jouer ou de ne pas jouer pour son pays .

On a envie qu'il s'exprime lui meme. Les propos de son entraineur peuvent signifies que son club fait pression sur lui pour qu'il ne vienne pas. Il eest grand temps pour lui de venir, sinon si on realase bonne CAN en Guinee,c'est qui va etre le cas, il sera difficile pour lui d'integrer le groupe.

Avons-nous vraiment besoin d’Asso pour la CAN 2015?
Sauf blessure, il y aura Bokila, Kabananga et Mbokani. Si on rajoute les milieux offensifs, Mubele, Mabwati, Luvumbu donc 6 joueurs pour les secteurs offensifs avec 3 avant-centres et rajouter un 7e se serait trop. Asso peut être mis en réserve et compter qu’il soit là pour les éliminatoires de 2017 et coupe du monde 2018. Pour l’instant je pense qu’on peut s’en passer, les négos avec son club peuvent être orientée dans ce sens.

Assombalonga moved to England with his older brother and two younger sisters. “I can’t remember what it (Congo) was like because of only being a year old,” he says. While he hopes to return to the Congo soon, his family have told him stories of their life back home, which he says were “sometimes scary”.

Despite some doubts at the time, Britt Assombalonga has been well worth his £5.5m transfer fee.
Nottingham Forest boss Stuart Pearce decided to fork out a club record fee to snap up the 21-year-old after he smashed 33 goals in 58 games for League One side Peterborough United.
So far, Assombalonga has scored 12 goals in 21 games, earning the adoration of Forest fans - and no doubt attracting interest from Premier League clubs in the process.
Yet Assombalonga could have another decision over his future to make in the coming weeks; this time over his international allegiance.
Manager Stuart Pearce has told Assombalonga to wait and play for England, but having been born in Kinshasa, the striker is eligible to play for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Claude Le Roy's men have qualified for the 2015 African Cup of Nations, and are likely to come calling for Assombalonga's services amid injury concerns over star forward Dieumerci Mbokani.
Back in 2013 whilst with Peterborough, Assombalonga admitted that his father, as well as his former team mate Gabriel Zakuani, were trying to convince him to play for DR Congo.
"My dad doesn't put me under too much pressure, he doesn't mind my decision but obviously it would make him happy if I was to play for Congo one day in the first-team," revealed Assombalonga.
"Gabriel Zakuani tells me he would like me to play for Congo. So maybe soon, we'll see. I am happy to wait though, I am young enough and I need to focus on my club career for now. If I keep on doing everything I'm doing now and keep on the right track then hopefully international caps will come later on," he added.
Pearce will be hoping that either Assombalonga rejects any advances or DR Congo choose not to approach him, given that he would be out of action for up to three weeks as part of the tournament.
Still young and banging in the goals, Assombalonga could yet play for England one day - but the prospect of DR Congo will lurk until he makes any decision.

finalement 21 ans c'est peu pour supporter un tel dileme. On sent de l'hypocrisie chez ce pearce. il va surement presenter au petit une situation de chantage qui va faire balancer le choix du petit à rester en club
