Premier League, Carrow Road – Norwich City 3 (Klose 45, Mbokani 74, Olsson 90+3) Newcastle United 2 (Mitrovic 71, 86)
Norwich City took a crucial step in their bid for Premier League survival, beating Newcastle United 3-2 in a thrilling battle at Carrow Road.
The match looked to be headed for a 2-2 draw when Aleksandar Mitrovic levelled from the spot with just two minutes remaining.
But Martin Olsson rifled home deep in injury time to give Norwich a dramatic, and key, victory.
Norwich were by far the better team in the opening half and went ahead just before the break when Tim Klose headed home Jonny Howson’s cross.

The Canaries kept that advantage until a frantic final 20 minutes. First substitute Mitrovic headed Newcastle level before the excellent Dieumerci Mbokani put Norwich back in front moments later with a fierce drive into the top corner.
A needless handball in the box from Gary O’Neil allowed Mitrovic to again level and that’s how it looked to have finished before Olsson’s late drive gave Norwich three vital points.
It means Norwich are four points ahead of Sunderland, with Newcastle a further two behind their great rivals. Both have a game in hand.
TALKING POINT
Why wasn’t Mitrovic on earlier? Rafa Benitez waited until the 62nd minute to introduce the striker, who suddenly made Newcastle look like a different team. Caused havoc in the Norwich box and twice got Newcastle back into the match.

MAN OF THE MATCH
Dieumerci Mbokani (Norwich City) Ran himself into the ground and could have had a hat-trick with a little more luck. Had the ball in the net when marginally offside and was denied by an unbelievable save.
