Les Léopards seniors locaux sont invités par la fédération égyptienne de football pour participer au tournoi du Nil, du 3 au 16 janvier 2011 au Caire, en Egypte, indique une correspondance de cette fédération adressée à son homologue de la RDC. Voici, par ailleurs, les joueurs convoqués par l’entraîneur Mutumbile Santos pour y prendre part : Kidiaba Muteba,Nkulukuta Miala, Mabele Bawaka, Kasusula Kiritsho, Mihayo Kazembe, Kimuaki Joël, Bedi Mbenza, Kasongo Ngandu, Lofo Bongeli, Kabangu Mulota, Kaluyitukadioko Alain, Kanda Déo et Mvete Luyeye du TP Mazembe ; Matampi Vumi, Bokese Gladys, Salakiaku Matondo et Tusilu Bazola du DC Motema Pembe ; Isama Mpeko, Ebunga Simbi, Niemba Nkanu et Kasereka Thierry de l’AS V.Club ; Monganga du FC Lupopo.

Congo's Kidiaba shocked at Stars' display in Cairo

During December's Fifa Club World Cup held in Abu Bhabi, Congo club TP Mazembe enthralled the entire continent with a credible performance in the competition.

The club made history by becoming the first African club to reach the final of the competition where they eventually lost to winners Inter-Milan.

The entire continent was gripped by TP Mazembe’s performance and rooted for them to win the trophy. One man who also caught the attention of the world during the event was Mazembe’s flamboyant goalkeeper Muteba Kidiaba.

Impressive throughout the tournament he became known for his unusual back-side bouncing celebration routine.

Kidiaba is with the Congolese team in Cairo for the Nile Basin tournament and he says his unusual celebration of goals was motivated by a deep joy at seeing his team score.

"I was always very happy when we scored in the competition and it forced me to sit down and do the celebrations," he said in an interview after his side beat Kenya 1-0 on Saturday at the Police Stadium in Cairo.

Kidiaba is grateful that the entire continent stood beside them as the competition progressed saying it kept them going.

"We knew that the whole continent was behind us and it made us feel very special. We just wanted to go and on in the competition. Even when we lost, it was easier to accept the loss because we knew we had the support of an entire continent," he said.

Kidiaba hopes to translate his club performance on the national team during the Nile tournament but he admits it will not easy especially after his team struggled against Kenya’s Harambee Stars.

"We knew it would be an easy match against Stars but were shocked at how they played and in the end we scored only one goal. Kenya is a good team and we respect them a lot after this result,"

"Going forward we must play better in our remaining matches. We are capable of this and we do not fear any team at all in this competition,"he said.

Regarding hosts Egypt who may be regarded as Congo’s greatest threat in this competition, Kidiaba said the experience they gained from beating Egyptianclubs in last year’s CAF Champions league will count for them.

He said they are using this championships as preparation for next month’s Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) in Sudan.

Congo are the tournament’s defending champions having won the competition in its inaugural edition in Ivory Coast two years ago.

La suspension de Kabangu, Kaluyituka et Bedi levée

La Fédération congolaise de football association vient de lever la suspension de trois joueurs de TP Mazembe suspendus après avoir refuser de prendre part au tournoi du Nil où les Léopards locaux ont été invités par l’Egypte. C’est la quintessence du point de presse organisé par le manager général de TP Mazembe, Fréderic Kitengie dans son cabinet de travail.
