Lita seeks Simba stardom :
Lita scored his fourth of the season on Saturday
Many of the big stars at the forthcoming African Cup Of Nations - the likes of Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu, Lauren and El Hajji Diouf - have made their way back to Tunisia to join their national sides from the major club sides in Europe.
Others have opted not to travel in order to further their club careers. However, there are also some African players in England who dream of playing for their native country.
One is Bristol City's Leroy Lita, a 19-year-old young hopeful from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
"We left when I was a kid because of the war," Lita told BBC World Service's The World Today programme.
"I remember playing footy in the street with the local boys. No shoes, and we didn't have many toys so we used to have a stick and a hoop. But we were happy.
"This is a dream come true."
Ambition
Lita said that as a young boy growing up in Kinshasa, he could only dream of playing professional football.
He began featuring for City in late 2002, but has been a regular up front this season, scoring his fourth goal of the season on Saturday in City's 4-0 win over Chesterfield.
It's important to be a calming influence - it's more difficult for foreign boys
Danny Wilson
Now he has begun establishing himself he is hopeful it is just the beginning of his career.
"My biggest dream is to play for Real Madrid - I've got to establish myself here first," he said.
"I've got big ambitions. Working hard, keep scoring."
That ambition may not be too unrealistic. Lita's compatriot, Lomano Lua-Lua, was similarly plucked from the lower English leagues to a huge club - he went from Colchester to Newcastle United.
Ironically, Lua-Lua is still undecided as to whether he will feature at the African Cup of Nations - if he goes he will captain the Simbas, but Newcastle are currently short on striking options and he could miss out on a run in the first team at St James' Park.
Lita, however, said he would be following the tournament closely, and has ambitions to pull on the Simba shirt himself one day.
"Definitely I'd love to play," he said.
"But they've got bigger players than me."
Exciting
Bristol City are currently third in Division Two, around 45 places below Arsenal and Manchester United.
"Leroy is doing really well here," Bristol City manager Danny Wilson told The World Today.
"He's matured a lot.
"He's very strong, good in the air and he's a good asset for us at the moment."
Wilson added that he felt is was important to support young players just starting out, especially if Britain is not their homeland.
"It's difficult to bring young players in to the country," he said.
"It's difficult for parents, they do worry about them.
"That's why we try and look after them. It's important to be a calming influence. It's more difficult for foreign boys. "
There are often stories of "unsettled" players at a number of clubs, although Lita is not enduring any such experience, and fans at the club's Ashton Gate ground have given him a warm welcome.
"He's one of the most exciting players the club's had in years," one said.
