A noter que lors du même match, Assombalonga pouvait réussir un triple s'il n'avait pas loupé son deuxième penalty.

L'essentiel est que notre futur avant ait fini son championnat avec 14 buts, il revient de très loin.

Britt Assombalonga has once again spoken of his desire to play international football for DR Congo, admitting his pride at being from the African country.

The Nottingham Forest frontman fired his team to Championship safety on Sunday, scoring a brace in a 3-0 win over Ipswich which kept the Reds in the second tier.

Forest's top scorer with 14 goals in just 32 games this term rejected the chance to play in the Africa Cup of Nations in January, instead preferring to help his side's relegation battle.

Assombalonga, whose dad Fedor also played for the country, revealed his pride at choosing to represent the nation, saying: "I was born in Congo so that's where I want to play.

"My dad played there so it's not really difficult," he said. "People might say it's the easy way but that's where I was born, that's where my family is from.

"I am African and I want to show people that they can pick to go and play for a team in Africa and that's what I have done, that's what I have chosen.

"It's good for me because I am proud to say I am African," admitted the club's record signing who was born in DR Congo's capital, Kinshasa.

"I am proud to say I am from Congo and that's the team I would like to play for, the 24-year-old told BBC Sport.

The decision to pull out of the Cup of Nations squad came after an issue with paperwork saw him forced to miss a World Cup qualifier against Guinea in November at the eleventh hour.

Assombalonga previously explained his decision to turn his country down, citing the need to focus on club football, after being out injured for more than a year with a serious knee injury.

Speaking at the time, the former Peterborough striker said: "It is an honour to be called up and I had a great time with them when I was called up last time.

"But going forward I need to make sure I am right; that I am playing regular games, before I consider playing internationally," he said.

"It was an honour to be picked and it made my family smile. But I have to make sure I am right to go; I have to get the balance right and I have to make sure I am playing games.

"With the injuries I have had the time is right for me to say 'no' and focus on playing games for Forest.

"I need to get back to full fitness; to get back to where I want to be. I cannot really go away and play in a tournament like that when I have not been playing here."

"Forest have stuck behind me. It is an honour being selected for your country and I would love to play for them in the future. But for now I need to stick around and make sure I am right."

DR Congo are next in action on June 3, when they host Botswana in a friendly before facing Congo in a qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations five days later.

The Teessiders fought off competition from Premier League clubs to secure the services of the highly-rated 24-year-old, who put pen to paper on Monday evening in a £15m deal.

The striker scored 30 Championship goals in 47 starts for the Midlands club after joining from Peterborough in 2014.

“I can’t wait to meet the manager and get ready for next season. There’s a good feeling around the place. From the minute I walked in it felt right.”

The striker was also quick to thank the Nottingham Forest fans and wish his former club all the best for the new season.

“I want to thank the Forest fans for being behind me, especially after my injury,” he added.

“They gave me a chance in the Championship and I want to say thanks to them and wish them all the best for the season.”

It's proving to be a busy summer so far for Boro as we prepare for an assault on the Sky Bet Championship.

Assombalonga becomes Garry Monks' fifth signing, following the permanent transfers of Jonny Howson, Cyrus Christie and Martin Braithwaite as well as a year-long loan deal for Connor Roberts.

Head to mfc.co.uk on Tuesday for an exclusive interview with Britt, as well as photos from his first day as a Boro player.

Bonne chance à Assombalonga. C'est vrai, que j'aurais souhaité le voir en premier league, mais bon, il a peut-être fait un choix pécunier, espérons pour lui qu'il ne le regrettera pas.
