Coventry City have completed the signing of Huddersfield Town striker Jordy Hiwula-Mayifuila who is set to add blistering pace to the Sky Blues attack.

The 23-year-old former Manchester City Academy graduate has been drafted in by Mark Robins but, interestingly, not as a direct replacement for Marc McNulty.

Hiwula-Mayifuila, who is of Angolan descent, was born in Manchester and has represented England Under-18s and 19s.

He signed for Premier League Terriers in 2015 but is yet to break through at the John Smith’s Stadium, making only one substitute appearance so far, back in 2015-16 in the Capital One Cup.

He has, however, enjoyed a number of loan spells in League One, scoring nine in 20 games for Walsall during the second half of the 2014/15 season, while still at Man City.

He followed that up with a season-long loan at Wigan Athletic, scoring nine more to help the club reach the play-offs after being farmed out to get experience during his first season at Huddersfield.

The young striker was then sent out on loan to Bradford City in 2016/17, scoring 12 to help the Bantams also reach the League One play-offs.

And he followed that up with another impressive loan, this time at Fleetwood Town where he scored 13 more to finish the Cod Army’s leading scorer.

So what can we expect from the striker?

Here, Fleetwood Town reporter Rosie Swarbrick, of the Blackpool Gazette, gives the lowdown on the player with pace to burn.

Type of striker:
“He’s quick and nippy," says Swarbrick.

“He was quite an impact player for Fleetwood under John Sheridan, and used off the bench a lot but still played a key role and finished the season as top scorer with 13 in all competitions.

“He’s full of pace and played really well in a counter attacking role. That’s why Uwe Rosler brought him in, because he played a very counter attacking style of football.

“But the big change for him came when John Sheridan came in and gave Conor McAleny his first 90 minutes after being out with injury and, along with the arrival of Paddy Madden in January, Jordy slipped down the pecking order.

“But John still used him off the bench and he still made an impact. He scored at Rochdale, which was a really important goal, and was certainly pushing and deserved more game time.

“But the manager couldn’t really put him in because he didn’t want to change a winning side.”

Stand out quality?
“His pace. He’s a very good finisher as well, especially in one v one situations.

“He’s very good at getting himself in those position in behind defences, beating the off-side trap and all that with his pace.

“But he also gets in well at the back post. If someone whips in a decent cross he’s quite a good poacher.

“But it’s his pace that stands out more than anything.”

Types of goals?
“Mainly one on ones if he runs through into the box to score. He’s not really known for his heading ability. He can be a fox in the box but I would say his main attribute is his off the shoulder play so he can run straight at people.”

Best position:
“He can play in a two or a three or up front on his own.”

Character:
“He’s a kind of happy go lucky chap, who has always got a smile on his face.

“He works hard and he always wanted to make an impact in games even if he wasn’t getting the starts that he probably deserved.”

Ready to make next step to being first choice?
“Yes, definitely. I think he’s good enough to score 20 plus goals in this division, if given the starts and with the right players around him to create opportunities.

“He certainly knows how to score at this level and will certainly have the measure of most defences. As we saw at Fleetwood last season, pace can make a big difference given the quality of some of the defenders.”
